Federation of Swiss Street Arts

multidisciplinary

In June 2016, I was hired by the Swiss Federation of Street Arts (FARS) as a coordinator. The development work at FARS was both challenging and exciting. I discovered the world of street arts, which can be highly multidisciplinary (music, theater, dance, circus, mime, etc.), and I was constantly amazed. In Switzerland, the general public is still not fully aware of this art form, which can be truly exceptional.

The goals of the Federation are:

  • To support, represent, promote, and develop street arts in Switzerland

  • To unite Swiss street artists and artists based in Switzerland

  • To encourage knowledge exchange among its members

  • To sustain the Swiss urban arts scene

  • To serve as the official contact for public authorities regarding street arts

  • To represent Switzerland at the International Federation for Public Space Arts (IFAPS)

Development axes:

  • Network: Build a professional repertoire and foster collaboration in all possible ways between festivals, venues, artists, and public authorities.

  • Political recognition: Become the official representative of the Swiss urban arts scene in Switzerland (and eventually abroad). Assist members in professionalizing the management of their companies.

  • Knowledge management: Develop a physical and virtual resource center covering professionalization, organizational structure, and theoretical knowledge about public space.

  • Organizational support: Host street companies, organize public space festivals, train municipal staff, and run audience education programs.

FARS aims to create bridges across the different cultural regions of Switzerland, bringing together artists and cultural actors active in public spaces in Ticino, German-speaking Switzerland, French-speaking Switzerland, and the Grisons for Rhaeto-Romansh speakers, if applicable. FARS aspires to become trilingual or quadrilingual, representing all artists based in Switzerland and active in public spaces.

Structure:
The federation is run by a committee of professionals in the field, organized into commissions according to ongoing projects. Additional external collaborators are invited to contribute to specific projects.
